The long-awaited Google G1 phone is here. Many consumers are comparing the Google G1 phone with the Apple iPhone. For the iPhone, Apple built its own phone, its own operating system, and its own content system. This is where the G1 is different, as it is based on an open platform. Although the number of iPhone applications continues to increase, these applications are only accessible through Apple’s Application Store, and Apple has the final say in deciding which applications get accepted. Some users don’t like this system. Android will be available to other phones which, as we understand it, should begin soon. The potential number of T-Mobile G1 applications is unlimited. Yet, it’s too early to know whether mobile application developers will congregate enthusiastically around the Android platform.
